Hello everyone.
Most of you probably got the notification about the Kitsap County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)
hearing for the upcoming Woods View project. The BOCC will hear the
Woods View appeal on Monday, August 25th, 2008 at 7:15 PM. The hearing
will be in the Commissioners chambers in the new admin building (across
from the old Kitsap County Courthouse in Port Orchard) just inside the main entry on your right.
We
need to get as many people as possible to attend this hearing. Please
tell all of your friends, family and neighbors about this important
hearing, and strongly encourage them to attend. We think a good showing
will make an impact on the commissioners.
Remember, this appeal
pertains to construction of 78-RENTALS (not homes owned by the
occupants) on 12.6 acres at the corner of Woods Road and Farmer Dell
Road. We firmly believe that, if approved, this site will be the
future site of the "Port Orchard slums".
We feel that this is
the wrong project to allow in our rural area. In fact, we feel
strongly enough about this that we have filed suit against the Washington State Department of Health (and will include Kitsap County,
if the BOCC approves this project on Monday) for allowing a Large
Onsite Sewage System (LOSS) to be used to support urban-dense housing
in a rural area.
This project violates Kitsap County's own
ordinances! Our attorney (Ryan Vancil) will attempt to summarize why
this is true in 10 minutes.
Please plan to attend the hearing if
you can make it. We don't know the exact time that the hearing will
take place on Monday (it's scheduled for 7:15 PM, but will probably
start later), but we do know that each side has only 10 minutes to
present their arguments.
Hope to see you there!

P.S. Commissioners Jan Angel and Steve Bauer are running for State Representative and County Commissioner
positions, respectively, this November. How they vote on this issue
will give you some insight on how they view environmental issues and
compliance issues. Further, for Jan Angel, it will tell you if she
will actually listen to her constituents when making decisions. We had
over 600 signatures submitted to the county commissioners on September
11, 2006 from people who were very concerned/upset about the Woods View
project (and others like it) in rural Kitsap County. Did she listen?
We will find out Monday.
